NASA launches new mission to improve hurricane forecasting

NASA has launched a new mission aimed at improving hurricane forecasting.

The first two CubeSats, nicknamed ‘Rocket like a Hurricane,’ lifted off from New Zealand Sunday evening.

They are about the size of a loaf of bread and weigh about 12 pounds each.

In about two weeks, two additional CubeSats are set to launch.

Together, the four satellites will orbit about 340 miles above Earth’s surface. They will capture hourly observations of the precipitation, temperature, and humidity of tropical storms.
